Opera to Go
The Opera Bears

A Grrrrr-reat way to learn about Opera! "Grizzelina" and "Grizzelino" are singing opera bear puppets, and teach young people about opera and how opera productions are created by everyone working together in harmony and cooperation.

Two singers and a pianist/moderator learn that opera can be fun by playing several interactive "games," including "Aria Ready?" about how opera singers sing solos, and "Duet Yourself!" about how two singers sing and stage duets.

More in-depth than Puppets & Pagliacci, this program presents performances in a variety of languages and styles. Student volunteers become supernumeraries, involving them in opera in a very personal way.
The Tale of the Three Billy Goats Gruff

African-American Heroes in Song
Marian Anderson

A celebration and tribute to the first African-American singer to perform at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. This program explores the turbulent history fo the Civil Rights Movement While presenting the wide variety styles in Marian Anderson's repertoire, including spirituals, art songs, and opera excerpts.

Harriet Tubman (Available in the Spring of 2010)

The work and life of Harriet Tubman is explored in this multimedia presentation. Miss Tubman's story is narrated by abolitionist William Grant Still, and two other characters, the Quaker abolitionists Thomas and Sarah Garrett, serve to illustrate the fact that people of different races and backgrounds assisted in the noble fight to bring slaves to freedom.

This fascinating and sometimes controversial man and artist was one of the most interesting figures of the 20th century. His life and legacy will be explored in this multi-media presentation featuring a male baritone singer and pianist.

Opera A La Carte
Special concerts, lectures, and prgrams can be specifically tailored for groups according to their needs. Studying Shakespeare? A program of operatic selections based on the words of the Bard cam be arranged. Studying French culture? Music from taht genre can be arranged as well. A program of beloved and familiar operatic arias and ensembles is requested? Singers and pianists will be ready to perform.
Opera Cares
In conjunction with the Baltimore City Office of Aging, the Lyric will present programs to the Senior Citizen Centers in Baltimore. These programs are highly successful in bringing entertaining and effective performers to audiences that have great need to hear this music in comfortable and familiar settings. Currently four programs are in place, but other programs can be designed especially to suit the needs of the individual centers. Additionally, children's programs can be scheduled so taht grandchildren can join their grandparents and caregivers in a multi-generational celebration of family and opera. All programs are very interactive with the audience, encouraging participation and activity.

Education Resources
The music staff of the Lyric is available to conduct Master Classes with your choir or vocal students, in addition to providing lectures on specific operas or opera in general.

Student Dress Rehearsals
The Lyric Opera is committed to continuing to provide opera performances of the highest quality to our audiences in the Lyric Opera House. As a schedule of opera performance becomes shaped and expanded, it is fully expected that the Lyric Opera will continue to be able to invite students to Dress Rehearsals of operas, where they can experience the full grandeur of opera with orchestra, sets, lighting, and costumes.
